Candy House Gourmet, located in Joplin, Missouri area, offers homemade delicacies that are created using recipes that have been popular among the locals for decades.

Originally located in an old rock bar on Redings Mill Road, just south of Joplin, the first version of this candy store opened its doors in 1970. Back then, it was known as Richardson’s Candy House, and Don and Peggy Richardson were its proprietors.

Over the years, the Candy House’s ownership has changed, and the firm has even been forced to close for a period of time, causing disappointment among its long-time customers and local chocoholics. Fortunately, it was brought back to life as Candy House Gourmet in December 2016 when Cara and Wayne Adolphsen (who also own Joplin’s Mizzou Aviation) purchased the company. The Adolphsens also employed some of its former employees, which was a wise decision given that they were already familiar with the candy kitchen and with the company’s clientele.

What exactly are the Candy House Gourmet’s specialities? Toffee, caramel pecan treats (turtles), brittle, fudge, divinity, pecan logs, and sea salt caramels are just a few of the sweets made with the original recipe.

The Adolphsens enjoy experimenting in the test kitchen, and they have already introduced some new candies, such as the Banana Split Cream, which is made with half banana and half strawberry and topped with chopped peanuts, among other variations.

Candy House Gourmet sells chocolate-dipped strawberries in the spring and chocolate-covered caramel apples in the fall, depending on the season. Unlike ordinary chocolate-covered apples, these are both innovative and enormous in size.

In addition to the Classic, they launched the Deluxe, which is drizzled with three different types of chocolate and then dusted with pecans. The Adolphsens have recently added the Apple Pie taste to their lineup, in addition to the Sea Salt Caramel flavor.

Candy House Gourmet also manufactures gourmet popcorn in a variety of flavors, including classics such as Sweet Caramel Nut Corn and innovative tastes such as hot Cinnamon Corn. You can purchase the popcorn in individual servings, or you can sample a variety of varieties (as well as some chocolates) by ordering one of the mixed baskets from the Candy House Gourmet’s holiday gift suggestion. The book also includes chocolate bars that may be personalized, which make for unique and amusing gifts.
